Being a wedding photographer, at some point you’ve most likely heard the term “ideal client”. I remember the first time I heard this, I thought it meant you’d only work with a certain type of person and that didn’t sit well with me. The more I started to think of who my ideal client would be, the more I understood the term, why it’s used and how it really mostly benefits the client.
Being able to really connect with your clients on a personal level and have compatible personalities is extremely important from the time they hire you until the wedding day + beyond. This blog is all about how to figure out WHO your ideal client is and most importantly, how to attract them.
When you think of someone who is your perfect client, who is it? What makes them so special? Maybe they’ve followed your work forever and truly love what you do, they pay your rate without hassle, they respect you and are communicative. For me, those were some key things I saw in my ideal clients.
Consider things like:
- What are their personalities like?
- What’s their style?
- What’s their budget?
- Can you share the vision of their wedding day?
Once you’ve decided who your ideal client is, how do you attract them?
Social Media |
Keeping your social media updated with your most recent work is very important. I know life is busy as it is, but staying on top of social media in this technology filled world is so important. Not only is posting / staying updated important, but the CONTENT you are posting is! Post things you know your ideal client will want to see on your feed.
Be intentional.
Consistency is KEY. Your potential clients want to see that from wedding to wedding, you’re consistent in your work. This allows them to picture their day with you very clearly.
Let your personality shine
You don’t have to be a robot on social media. Actually, it’s better if you’re not! If your ideal client is someone who is compatible with your personality, they’re most likely going to be someone who has things in common with you. Don’t be afraid to post your personal life from time to time on social media so people can see you’re a real person. This allows people to feel connected to you before they even meet you!
Website Design |
Just as I mentioned it’s important to keep your social media updated, your website is no different. Your website will immediately attract or send off your ideal clientele! For example, my ideal client would be looking for a simple, light, airy and romantic feel. And that’s exactly how my website is designed. I want to attract people who have the same style + vision as I do so that we’ll make the perfect pair!
Your website should represent you
Be Authentic |
Being true to yourself in your business is the most important thing you can do for yourself. As cheesy as it sounds, simply being you and allowing your personality to come through your work + the things you post will attract the kind of people that are YOUR kind of people! As business owners, it’s so easy to see what’s working for others and worry about what other people in our fields are doing. I get it. But, a big reason people want to book you aside from your work is because of YOU.
“No one else is you and that is your super power”
Yep. It’s really that simple! These small steps are what I do to bring in ideal clients who have the same love of pretty photos + similar style and values. I hope this blog has helped. Please feel free to comment or reach out to me if you’re still struggling on who your ideal client is or how to attract them!
Happy booking, friends!
